Predatory carnivorous houseplant flycatcher, Cape sundew Drosera
Cape sundew is an insectivorous plant, a species of Sundew (Drosera) of the genus Droseraceae. Because of their size, they are easy to grow and produce copious amounts of seeds. Cape sundews have become one of the most common in cultivation. Cape sundew produces leaves up to 3.5 to 8 cm long (not including petiole) and 0.5 cm wide, which are covered with secreting glands that produce sticky mucus to attract insects. When insects come across a sundew, the leaves curl lengthwise towards the center. This promotes digestion by bringing more glands to the prey. The sheet curling time is about 30 minutes.
- Lighting: Bright light; Prolonged exposure to the sun should be avoided.
- Watering: Abundant, earthen lump should not dry out. In winter, watering is reduced, but the substrate should not dry out completely. Water only with distilled or rainwater; any other water is destructive for sundews.
